Indian Judicial System Needs Uniformity in Case Classification

Description :

How many of you have tried to see the status of the case and specially with the help of case type/classification across Indian HCs and faced the difficulty in searching the same ? I am sure majority of you faced the difficulty as I have. As per my calculation, case types/classification in across HCs range from 50 to 500. Case Classification also differs from bench to bench, for example Allahabad Bench is having 117 and Lucknow Bench 70. Supreme Court in its annual report mentions HCs’ case pendency in 21 categories including ‘other than above’ which contains majority of cases compared to major headings classes which ultimately do not show clear picture of pending cases, single biggest reason behind this is variations in case types/classification across HCs. We literally puzzled when we see case type or case classification on respective HCs websites.
There is an urgent need to have uniformity in class classification across HCs to facilitate all the stakeholders and citizen at large. This will greatly help in proper analysis and reporting in various form.
